J. A. Harding vs R. H. Spillman (Baptist)
August 20, 1907
Fountain Run, Kentucky

June 4 for 3 days at Fountain Run, Ky.

Spillman tried "faith alone" theory. Every scripture ascribing salvation was used. Bro. Harding showed we are not saved by faith alone (Jam. 2:20 RV). Spillman said H. S. Came on Cornelius before baptism to save him. Bro. H. Showed it was not the "falling on" of the H.S. that was to save Cornelius and his house, because "send men to Joppa and call for Simon whose surname is Peter; who shall tell thee words, whereby those and all thy house shall be saved" (Acts 11:14). This is the record and we find that he told them to be baptized (Acts 10:48).

Spillman had his speeches written in a book and read principally from it; but these written speeches failed and did not meet bro. Harding's arguments any of the time.

Bro. Harding told Mr. Spillman: "I would like to repeat this discussion whenever you will meet me." Mr. Spillman said: "My time will be taken up for the rest of the year."

Fountain Run has a generous and noble people. They spread forth great multitude of people a bountiful repast each day. The debate closed in a good spirit. We hope that the people may study the Bible closely and that they may see the light and walk therein.
