For two days Bro. Hinds affirmed: "The Holy scriptures teach that the one baptism of the gospel of Christ by which we are now saved or admitted into the body of Christ is immersion in water." Bro. Hinds admirably sustained his position.
Harvey affirmed: "The holy scriptures teach that the one baptism of the gospel by which men are now saved or admitted into the body of Christ is the baptism of the Holy Spirit." He never defined his proposition. He had a hard time affirming such a proposition.
Bro. Hinds had the advantage because:
1) He had the truth on his side.
2) He has the faculty of stating the truth clearly.
3) He stays with the issue and is not sidetracked.
4) He has a clear understanding of the subject.
5) He can get as much into one speech as his opponent got into 2 or 3.
The brethren were very pleased with bro. Hinds. He is not egotistical nor harsh, but very pleasant. He does not say hard things about his opponent nor his church. You can depend on him to defend the truth.
