Being a brother of J. L. Hines, modesty compels me to refrain from extravagant praise. It was a great victory for the truth. The people who attended saw the truth stand out as clear as the noonday sun. I moderated for J. L. Four Baptist preachers moderated for Edwards.
For 4 days Hines affirmed his general church proposition. He presented much evidence - Edwards tried to answer only one argument. Edwards rambled among musty histories, trying to find his lost link and became confused. He set up his church during the personal ministry of Christ, laid the foundation in Jerusalem and set up the church on a Mt. in Galilee. During this state of bewilderment he ran to Rev. 12 for aid. He said the woman was the church and "man child" was Christ. Thus he had the church in existence before Christ. Hence, that institution he set up on a mountain in Galilee before Christ was born, is a childless, bloodless, headless, Spiritless church. Then Edwards established the church on the apostles, but he stated that Judas was a devil from the beginning. When pressed on this position, he said that he was mistaken; that Judas was a bishop in the church and fell. He not only took the position that the church was built on a devil, but that it was a widow three days. To prove this he read Isa. 54.
On the 5th and 6th days Hines affirmed baptism for the remission of sins. He produced a mass of evidence, but could not persuade Edwards to examine it. His charts hung on the wall for 8 days, but for some reason Edwards saw fit to ignore all except the tabernacle chart the last day, and then got into trouble on that.
Two Baptist were convinced that the Baptist church is wrong and they were leaving it.
