Alan Highers vs L. H. Brown (Missionary Baptist)
August 9, 1962
Yuma, Tennessee

(By Wayne Emmons)

July 2-7, Yuma, TN

Bro. Highers affirmed: "The church known as the church of Christ is scriptural in origin, doctrine, practice, and name." The last three nights Brown affirmed: "The church known as the Missionary Baptist church is scriptural in origin, doctrine, and practice." The fact that Brown refused to include the "name" in his proposition was a source of embarrassment to him all through the debate.

Bro. Highers presented an affirmative case for the N. T. church that could not be touched by the quibbles of Mr. Brown. Highers introduced a chart entitled, "L. H. Brown observed Passover," on which were listed 25 major arguments that Brown had chosen to pass over rather than answer. Large crowds attended. Debate was under a tent.
