C. C. Houston vs E. J. Woolridge (Methodist)
November 18, 1915
Location not given

(By W. T. Hines)

A complete victory over Methodist - Oct. 26-29, 1915 with the "sword of the Spirit." Only one proposition discussed.

Woolridge affirmed: "The scriptures teach that rational adults are saved by the baptism of the Holy Spirit in answer to the prayers of faith, and that only such adults as have been baptized with the Holy Spirit belong to the church of Jesus Christ."

Bro. Houston asked Woolridge if he ever baptized anyone and what kind of baptism is was. Woolrigde answered: "Yes, I baptized one man and it was water baptism." At this point bro. Houston asked how many baptisms there were. His reply: "Two - spiritual and water." Houston asked him to reconcile that with "one baptism" (Eph. 4:5). He ignored it for 2 days.

Bro. Houston asked: "If the Holy Spirit operates directly and this saves, please reconcile with the Savior's statement, "the world cannot receive him (John 14:15-18). To this W. made no reply. Again W. was asked: "In harmony with the direct operation, explain how we are cleansed by the word (Jno. 15:3), how the preaching of the cross is the power of God (I Cor. 1:21-24), how we are begotten by word of truth (Jas. 1:18). These he left alone. W. T. Hines moderated for Houston.
