H. W. Jones vs G. H. Cramer (Come Outer)
July 9, 1914
Marshall County, Kentucky

(By J. S. White)

This debate held near Grigg's Schoolhouse in Marshall Co. Ky. June 12-14 between H. W. Jones and G. H. Cramer (Come Outer).

The first day Mr. Cramer affirmed that the H. S. baptism is he one and only baptism. Now while Mr. Cramer is an experienced debater, and considered the strongest of his sect in the U. S., his fight on this proposition was very weak. Bro. Jones met him on every point, showing the doctrine that Mr. C. holds is unscriptural and that H. S. baptism is a promise and not a command.

On 2nd day bro. Jones affirmed that water baptism is a requirement of the new covenant and is binding through the gospel age. Mr. Cramer made little effort to meet the arguments, taking up his time in misrepresenting Campbell and talking about mud holes and tadpoles.

On the 3rd day bro. Jones affirmed that the Lord's supper (consisting of loaf and cup) is to be observed by Christians today. Mr. Cramer took the position that the Lord's supper was a part of the Passover feast, and as such, was done away. But Jones showed that there was no roast lamb nor biter herbs connected with the Lord's supper. Bro. Jones made a strong fight on this proposition, meeting Cramer at every turn and twist. In fact, the debate was a complete victory for the truth. Bro. Jones is a forceful speaker and a logical debater and the truth will not suffer in his hands. J. S. White moderated for Jones.
