Lancaster affirmed: "The inspired scriptures teach that faith, repentance, confession and baptism in water are conditions of pardon, or salvation to a dead, alien sinner." Davis affirmed: "The inspired scriptures teach that God gives eternal life to the dead alien sinner, without and conditions on the sinner's part."
Davis has a reputation for his defense of the Primitive Baptist doctrines. But he was no match for Lancaster in discussion, whose fearless exposure of sectarianism has characterized all his preaching.
The debate was held in a Baptist community and, according to indications, was a victory for the plain truth, differentiating, as it did, between a denomination and the church described in the N. T. This is one of the few opportunities our brethren have had to debate the P. B. Yet, the Calvinistic foundation of this church is fundamental in the basic doctrines of most modern denominations. Most P. B. are sincere in their error.
