Debated E.O. Stewart , Second-Day Adventist The Methodists indorsed this man on the kingdom question. They explained that they could not get a Methodist preacher that all could endorse. Mr. Stewart claimed to have met 31 gospel preachers. He labored long and hard to set the kingdom in the future, and when his defeat was so crushing he said he hated debates.
The Methodists gave him $75 to rescue them and he needed the money. I told him that he would do for m money what he disbelieved. He spent time ridiculing the church of Christ. He said its name could not be found in the Bible. He said the "churches of Christ" did not mean the "church of Christ," and challenged me to find "churches of God." [implying "church of God" was scriptural, but not "church of Chris] I showed him I Thess. 2:14. He made an apology for his mistake, and dropped the name like it was hot.
