C. R. Nichol vs H. H. Wallace (Missionary Baptist)
April 22, 1915
Dunmar, Kentucky

(By C. E. Woolridge)

From Mar. 30 - Apr. 2 at Dunmar, Ky.

Discussed differences in faith and practice of church of Christ and Miss. Bap. church. Bro. Nichol affirmed for two days. His argument was elaborate, strong and conclusive, not only showing the essentials to, and time and place of, the establishment of the church, but also that an earlier or later date would not fit the facts or demands of the scriptures. With reference to teaching and practice, he showed that in these points we stand for a thorough study and proper division of the word, and withal a faithful, harmonious execution of the Master's will in every detail.

Mr. Wallace, from Metropolis, Ill. Made much of catch points and quibbles with which he could create some feeling. At one time he spent 7 minutes repeating a single passage and forcing different interpretations on the people. In his first speech he introduced books other than the Bible. He indorsed Ray's "Gospel In Water" and the "Emphatic Diaglott." The later be insisted upon as scholarly both as to the Greek text and the two translations of Wilsons. In his affirmative he offered little. He seemed glad to slip back into the negative.

800 people attended. The following preachers came: T. B. Clark, W. V. Bush, R. B. Thompson, J. C. Forgy, Paul C. Young, H. J. Sudberry, W. T. Hines, John H. Hines, J. L. Hines, T. D. Willis, Charlie Black, Elmer Barbee and C. E. Wooldridge. The fine fellowship of all these men was a treat to bro. Nichol and me particularly, as we have labored most of our time in the west and know few preachers east of the Mississippi. The royal hospitality of the people of Dunmar was refreshing.
