C. R. Nichol vs R. N. Hickman (Seventh-Day Adventist)
July 11, 1929
Achille, Oklahoma

(By C. R. Nichol)

A very pleasant debate at Achille, Okla. Adventists are full of zeal, and most of them are devoted to their doctrine. Not only do they talk, but put literature into the hands of people. In debating these 4 issues I noticed a man busy handing out literature, They make more converts by their literature than by their sermons. Some Adventists came to me and said they were leaving the Adventist church. This happened while listening to the debate. Debate do a great good when conducted properly.

It is hard to conceive of a more absurd doctrine than that taught by the 7th Day Adventists and to defeat them is such an easy task. Yet, they make a splendid show when they have an audience not well known in the scriptures. I have never known a community that had a debate with them but their church declined and sometimes ceased to exist. Debates give you an opportunity to teach people you could not reach any other way.
