C. R. Nichol vs Guy Phelps (Methodist)
February 9, 1933
Houston, Texas

(By Will S. Cullum)

At Houston, Tx. a 13 nights discussion in Jan. 1933.

Mr. Phelps affirmed baptism performed by affusion is scriptural. Next he affirmed the church began in the days of Abel, and not on Pentecost. Then, that the alien sinner is saved before water baptism. Bro. Nichol is defending the truth to the satisfaction of all who desire to learn it.

It will be recalled that Mr. Phelps is the same one who challenged the Christian church for debate, but none dared to meet him. He came to Houston several days ago and challenged Harry G. Knowls of the First Christian Church, to defend his recent attempt to have a confessional put in protestant churches. Of course, Knowls would not meet him. At that time Mr. Phelps was asked to defend teachings of the M. E. Church (Methodist Episcopal), which he readily agreed to do; but his attempt is a complete failure. Bro. Nichol has exposed his position at every point. Large crowds are in attendance and good order prevailed.
