Gus Nichols was at his best in defending the truth. Mr. Batts said H.S. baptism is for us today. Early in the affirmation he declared that there are no measures of the Spirit and that to receive the H.S. in any manner was a baptism. Bro. Nichols pressed him on this until he later admitted that multitudes would be in heaven who had the Spirit but were not baptized in the Holy Spirit. The last night Batts affirmed that mechanical instruments of music are authorized in the worship of the church today. Bro. Nichols' able presentation of truth stung with telling force - 800 came each night. Flavil Nichols moderated for his father.
