Coleman Overby vs John R. Clark (Baptist)
January 20, 1927
Dresden, Tennessee

(By Hugo Allmond)

Dec. 28-31, 1926 - at Oak Grove Baptist meeting house near Dresden, Tn.

Mr. Clark affirm for two days. He labored very hard to get bro. Overby in the affirmative - a thing Bro. Overby refused to do, staying close to Mr. Clark's speech as possible. Overby proved the church was set up on Pentecost, Beginning with Isa. 2:2,3, he showed that each prophecy was fulfilled on Pentecost. Of his 66 passages Clark noticed only 6. The remainder of his time he spent slurring the children of God, using such terms as "infidels," "spiritual bastards" and many other blasphemous statements.

On the last day bro. Overby affirmed that baptism is a condition of pardon. He introduced Acts 2:38 and Mk. 16:16 which he diagramed on a chart. Clark attempted no reply, spending his time asking questions found in his little booklet, "Cambellite Catcher." The truth was defended by bro. Overby in an admirable way. I moderated for bro. Overby.
