S. O. Pool vs S. D. Condit (Mormon)
November 12, 1908
Chitwood, Oregon

(By Geo. W. Tyler)

At Chitwood, Or. - Oct. 13-16

Condit affirmed: Joseph Smith was a divine prophet of God, at times the people exhibited some ill will, but at the close this had vanished.

Condit, I suppose, made as strong a defense of Smith as is possible. Bro. Pool used principally the "Book of Mormon," "Church history of Latter-Day Saints," and "Doctrine and Covenants," in order to overturn Smith's claims. Condit actually denied these books. We expected him to deny the exposes, so did not use Braden's or Hancock's works; but we never even entertained the idea that he would deny their own books which they recognize as authority. Mr. Condit was easily shown to be defending a false prophet in Joseph Smith.

Bro. Pool is certainly one of the foremost disputants that we have. Tomorrow we begin an 8 day's discussion with 7th Day Adventists. Brethren Pool, Sewell, Rich and Geo. Tyler meet all opposition. Conditions in the West are different from the East. We have to meet Unitarians, Spiritualists, Mormons, Adventist and infidels, instead of Baptists and Methodists - and the "progressives" we have to meet.
