W. C. Phillips vs J. N. Hardy (Primitive Baptist)
August 28, 1924
Huntsville, Alabama

(By John C. Graham)

Three nights beginning July 29 at Merrimack Village, Huntsville, Ala.

There were to be 2 subject discussed for 2 nights each. Bro. Phillips affirming: "The scriptures teach that eternal life is offered to the alien sinner on conditions to be complied with which he has the power to do." Bro. Phillips did his work well. He built up a wall of proof about his propositions which Mr. Hardy, with all his misapplications of scriptures, could not tear down. Bro. Phillips showed that in all ages man's acceptance with God has depended on conditions to be complied with by man.

On the 2nd proposition, "The holy scriptures teach that all for whom Christ died will be saved in heaven." Mr. Hardy was scheduled affirm, but on account of some misunderstanding he could not stay but three nights. All of his speeches the third night were used to try to cover up his defeat two days before. The gospel invitation was given and two formerly Baptist ladies were baptized.
