C. H. Smithson vs Mr. Fitswater (Holiness)
November 7, 1912
Lamasco, Texas

(By C. H. Smithson)

This debate was held at Lamasco, Tx., Sept.16-19. A discussion between the church of Christ and modern "Holiness" people.

They are very strong in Fannin Co. and in some places they have almost captured all. Mr. Fitswater is the best they have and is a good debater, but his theory is a false one and easily met. I am sure this was the best work of my life. It did me good to hold up the truth in its original purity. The debate was well attended. I preached three times after the debate and had 8 additions.

Added note from elders: "We, the undersigned, take great pleasure in recommending to the brotherhood our beloved brother, C.H. Smithson, of Gunter, Tx. Not only as a preacher, but as a debater. He has been working in Fannin Co. for the past 16 months and all that we have seen or heard of him is commendable of a worthy Christian character. He has just closed a debate of four days duration that was a great victory for the truth, and he showed himself more than master of the situation. The brethren at Oakland and Lannis join us in this recommendation. Signed by elders: J. P. Windle, R. J. S. McCord, Milton Wieks.
