(By Geo. E. Williams)

Dec. 1 at Bethel Church on Cane Creek.

For four days debaters discussed general church propositions. Bro. Srygley abundantly proved his proposition. Pique admitted the N.T. church consisted of an included all Christians, but when the was asked if the Methodist Church included all Christians, he said, no. Thus surrendering his proposition the first day. He contended that the church was established in the covenant with Abraham, and citing Gal. 3:26,27, argued that if we are Christians, we are in the same church as Abraham. Bro. Srygley destroyed that with II Cor. 3:6,7, showing the old dispensation had been taken away and the new dispensation put in force, proving the church was not established before the death of Christ.

Pique found the "church in the wilderness" and "the kingdom in the hands of David" to be the same. But bro. Srygley said Pique could not find the "M. E. Church (South) of God, Jeff. Davis, and the Southern Confederacy" in the wilderness. Bro. Srygley showed Methodist doctrine is out of joint at every point. Pique claimed Paul was a Methodist bishop (citing II Cor. 11:28), and was over M.E. Church elders and deacons. Bro. Srygley asked Pique if each M.E. Church had these officers today. Pique was silent on this point for the rest of the debate.

On the mode of baptism Pique said "immerse" was no in the Bible and that it is not scriptural but may be valid. He said John the Baptist never did not get his shoe soles wet. Bro. Srygley net every quibble. Things Pique could not find in the Bible: 1) The Methodist church, 2) infant baptism. And he could not tell from what baptism save us.

Bro. Srygley is well qualified to meet opponents. He knows the truth and is able to defend it.
