W. L. Totty vs D. Lee Andrews (Christian Church - Premillennialism)
December 9, 1937
Indianapolis, Indiana

(By E. C. Kaltenbah)

W. L. Totty thoroughly established himself as a debater in Indianapolis when he so successfully refuted the arguments of D. Lee Andrews of the Christian church. The debate was on the evenings of Nov. 27-27 at the Indianapolis Bible Institute, where the premillennialism is taught.

Mr. Andrews affirmed: "Resolved, that the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, will reign 1000 years on the throne of his father, David, in Jerusalem, on earth." Mr. Andrews, in the affirmative, fared no better than did his moderator, one Dr. Cobb, a Baptist, about one month ago, on the same proposition. It was Cobb's failure that led Mt. Andrews to debate bro. Toddy.

Mr. Andrews, declined to debate the question of instrumental music in the church. His associates in the institute, mostly Baptists, also refused to discuss any proposition bearing on the subject of salvation.

The chairman, moderator, a member of a lesser sect, privately declared churches of Christ to be a "denomination," but could neither be persuaded nor pressed to debate it. The ancient plea of the gospel has begun to reach the "dark corners" of this city, thanks to the courageous faith of loyal brethren.
