W. L. Totty vs Karl Ketcherside (Anti of many things)
May 8, 1941
Anderson, Indiana

(By J. T. Marlin)

Karl Ketcherside represent the "Macedonian Call Persuasion" and is one of the most radical papers of the anti- college element. Throughout the debate Ketcherside and his cause suffered a relentless bombardment by a fearless expositor, whose talents are fully developed. Ketcherside is the outstanding monitor among his group, and has a reputation as a debater and orator. Some have even claimed him to be an intellectual giant, but this is one time that he met his "little David."

Never did bro. Totty shine as he did in the last two speeches, when he challenged Ketcherside for further debate. The crowd broke out in bedlam, cheering and interrupting him at different times. Ketcherside would offer the challenge for further debate, but at the close of the debate refused to meet bro. Totty again. Bro. Totty has made the church in Anderson safe from hobby-riding preachers. If he waits on them for another challenge, he will wait a long time.

We recommend bro. Totty as an able defender of the faith. Error always suffers at his hands. Christians in Anderson hail the debate as a decisive victory, and are still operating under the great commission which Ketcherside and his followers repeatedly repudiate. However, they did not tell how they would baptize. Ketcherside said Jesus' mother was a widow. He said they took care of orphans and widows alike. Of course they do, but bro. Totty proved to their embarrassment that they were on state relief.

The Ketcherside argument suffered so mercilessly at times that there was public weeping among their people and acknowledged defeat. There was a total eclipse of their Macedonian Star. All who heard the debate predict Ketcherside will not meet Totty again.

The Ketcherside and his followers are: anti-literature, anti-college, anti-orphan home, anti-individual cup, anti-regular preaching, and anti-the great commission.
