W. L. Totty vs H. J. Stambaugh (Free People)
March 1, 1951
York, Pennsylvania

(By Halley Smith)

W. L. Totty met H. J. Stambaugh in debate at York, Pa., Jan. 24-26, 1950.

Mr. Stambaugh represented the group known as "Free People." They teach that Holy Spirit baptism, not water baptism, puts one into Christ,. They deny that the Lord's supper is to be eaten by Christians in the church today.

Bro. Totty was master of the situation all the way through. So far as I know, this was the first debate withing 75 miles of this field. Every argument made by Stambaugh was fully answered with truth. The church here was inspired. More than half of the total in attendance were not members of the Lord's church. Many heard the truth that would not have heard it otherwise. We are very grateful to bro. Totty and to the Garfield Heights church in Indianapolis for coming to our aid in time of need.
