W. M. Thompson vs A. Nunnery (Missionary Baptist)
July 10, 1930
Chickashaw, Oklahoma

(By Will Cullum)

The debate was held June 24-27 at Kendrick, Ok.

Nunnery is an old war horse of the Missionary Baptist and has had many debates with us. Through 29 years older than bro. Thompson, he is only in the primary grades of the Bible, compared to the ability of bro. Thompson. The most noticeable characteristic of Mr. Nunnery in debate is to ignore arguments . He responded to Acts 2:38 which was diagrammed on a chart by saying, "I don't care anything about charts and blackboards." This was his style all through the debate. Bro. Thompson did not let even one argument go unanswered. Nunnery, at the close of the debate, said that bro. Thompson was one of the fairest men he ever met and that he followed his arguments close than others. Bro. Thompson is fair and courteous in his treatment of his opponent, but fails not to expose his doctrine. Good attendance at all sessions. This type of debating weakens denominationalism.
