J. E. Wainwright vs Maurice Johnson (Undenominational)
January 3, 1935
Los Angeles, California

(By W. B. West, Jr.)

Eight days debate in Los Angeles that closed Dec. 7, 1934.

Mr Johnson claims to be undenominational. Bro. Wainwright could not get him to sign any proposition, so no definitely defined propositions were discussed. However, the discussions were around the restoration of Israel, baptism, and the Holy Spirit. The debate was attended by large audiences. Mr. Johnson tried to be dramatic and emotional. He seemed more interested in using sarcasm than meeting the issues. There as much criticism of his pulpit conduct. Bro. Wainwright met each argument, and he took advantage of the occasion and preached some strong gospel sermons. He is a good speaker, and conducted himself in the pulpit as a Christian gentleman.

We were well pleased with the work of bro. Wainwright. Already we are seeing good results from the debate, and more are expected.
