Foy Wallace Jr. vs Charles Neal (Christian Church - Premillennialism)
January 12, 1933
Winchester, Kentucky

(Foy Wallace, Jr.)

Neal affirmed: There will be a reign of Christ on earth of a thousand years between the second coming of Christ and the final resurrection of the wicked."

Neal made all the arrangements for the debate; no moderators; one chairman; held at the Christian Church. At the close of the first night McClellen, minister of the Christian Church, and chairman, arose and ruled that Wallace should ask Neal no questions, and neither should answer from their seats. Bro. Wallace had not violated either rule. He arose and told the chairman that he couldn't rule; and read the agreement with Neal. Neal never defended him.

Third night, a Mr. Pendleton, a lawyer and member of the Christian Church, read new resolutions that neither man could read letters from each other or books or tracts written by each other. They could not mention any church or denomination.

Wallace answered: That he had agreed that he and Neal, under God, were free to debate as they pleased. They were chased over to the court house. The crowd followed including Christian Church people. Neal lost his angelic wings and became human. He went into personalities.

I never attended a debate where more scripture was quoted and less attention given by the affirmative (Neal). Robert Boll [well know proponent of premillennialsim] laid down his sweet spirit and tried to get into the conflict. Bro. Wallace told him he would debate him in Louisville where Boll had his school and paper. Boll held out for Nashville. Wallace insisted on Louisville. Boll said, "We will see about it."

Neal used two charts. The main one was from Re. 20:1-6. Another chart was the three ages - the patriarch, the Jewish, the Christian. These were all the affirmative he had. On these he made his tallest guessing. Wallace made many arguments against this theory and Neal ignored them. Wallace's telling arguments against Neal made his friends restless. The debate will do good. Prejudice will die in time and truth will remain.
