Foy E. Wallace Jr. vs Charles Neal (Christian Church - Premillennialism)
June 22, 1933
Chattanooga, Tennessee

(By F. B. Srygley)

Jan. 6-9 in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Wallace's 2nd debate with Neal. Along the same lines as the Winchester debate. Except Neal had a new set of charts - attractive, but no improvement on his old charts. In the Chattanooga debate he began in Genesis to show the general trend was towards his proposition. The audience failed to see it.
On the last night Neal hung up a large number of charts, and in his first speech used only one of them. Bro. Wallace answered this chart and then answered all the charts. Neal objected . Bro. Wallace said he had signed an agreement to introduce no new material in his last speech, and Neal's course had forced him to reply to all the charts or not reply at all. Neal arose to make his final speech, but instead, said bro. Wallace had not acted like a Christian gentleman. He withdrew his challenge to debate with him again. He also refused to make hid last speech. The chairman told bro. Wallace he could make his (2nd) and last speech.

Bro. Wallace made his last and then said he would leave his department in the debate to the silent decision of the audience. There was an almost universal applause. This was the first demonstration of that character that we had heard. It was quickly silenced by bro. Wallace and others, and bro. Wallace apologized to Neal for it, though it was as unexpected to Wallace as to Neal. We consider it the answer of the audience vindicating bro. Wallace of the charge that he was not a Christian gentleman.

It was a good debate, and it drew the line clear and distinct between the plain teaching of the word of God and these speculations on Revelation. But since bro. Neal and his brethren have become so bold in their teaching, and since he has been so anxious to debate his proposition in other places, we regret that he has taken out before discussion of his proposition reached Louisville, Ky., the headquarters for this party.
