Happy New Year

As 2010 fades into memory, the new year provides great hope and opportunity for us all. This is the time of the year when approximately 45% of us make resolutions for the upcoming year. Perhaps you are in that 45 percentile. If you are, do not let the fact that 97% of all resolutions fail cause you to lose hope. Rather focus on the illusive 3% and strive for victory. As an instructor of mine so eloquently stated years ago, "You can do it!"
Thankfully, when it comes to matters of service to the Lord, we can all do it! God has revealed His will to us and expects us to be unshakeable in our resolve to serve Him (Ephesians 5:17; I Corinthians 15:58). Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the goal for the Christian must be to strive to do more for God in 2011 than in 2010.
In the year ahead, resolve to draw closer to God. James wrote, "Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you" (James 4:8). Close relationships depend upon communication. God speaks to us through the Word (Romans 10:17), and we speak to Him through prayer (Philippians 4:7).
In the year ahead, resolve to draw closer to your brothers and sisters in Christ. Paul told those in Thessalonica to increase in brotherly love (I Thessalonians 4:9-10). Spend more time with your spiritual family this year.
In the year ahead, resolve to teach someone the Gospel of Christ! Jesus said, "For the son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). Take the time to hand-out tracts. Invite someone to attend the services of the Church. Remember, do all you can for the Lord in 2011!
