Only One Bible/ The Inspiration of The Bible

Only One Bible
The Inspiration of The Bible

-Written over a period of 1600 years

-Penned by about 40 different writers

-These were people from many different walks of life, fishermen, kings, tax collectors, shepherds.

-Yet the message is unified from a single source, GOD.

-There is no other possibility but that GOD:

   -Told them what to write

-HE preserved the message through time, until this day.

-This we will show as the evidence unfolds

GOD's word will stand forever.

Deuteronomy 29:29 KJV

[29] The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

2 John 1:2 KJV

[2] For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

1 Peter 1:23,25KJV

[23] Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

[25] But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

1-Credibility of the scriptures

O.T. Scriptures-

The finding of The Dead Sea Scrolls bridged a huge gap of time. Prior to 1947, when the scrolls were discovered, the oldest Hebrew manuscripts dated to the ninth century A.D. These scrolls showed that the O.T. text that was currently available, matched The Dead Sea Scrolls, which predated them nearly 1000 years.

-The law of Moses was found in the temple during the reign of Josiah, (2Kings 22). This bridges a gap of almost 1000 years.

Ezra 7:14 KJV

[14] Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;

-Its in possession after Babylonian captivity. A lot of history has passed from Sinai,

Neh.8:1-8 also.

JESUS read from a copy of Isaiah, not the original, and he called it scripture, Lk.4:16-21.

Matthew 23:2-3 KJV

[2] Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: [3] All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

-JESUS does not discredit the work of the scribes.

N.T.  Scriptures.-

The present number of Greek manuscripts-whole and partial-that attest to the New Testament stands at an unprecedented 5,735 (Welte, 2003). This figure does not include other sources of evidence such as the superabundance of patristic citations and ancient versions. The best manuscripts of the New Testament are dated at roughly A.D. 350, with perhaps one of the most important of these being the Codex Vaticanus, "the chief treasure of the Vatican Library in Rome," and the Codex Sinaiticus, which was purchased by the British from the Soviet Government in 1933. Additionally, the Chester Beatty papyri, made public in 1931, contain eleven codices (manuscript volumes), three of which contain most of the New Testament (including the Gospel accounts).

Then there are the Apostolic Fathers, so named, men who wrote primarily from A.D. 90 - 160. These men often quoted from the New Testament documents. Writers such as Clement of Alexandria, Clement of Rome, Tatian, Irenaeus, Tertullian and Ignatius.

Also there is the Old Latin and the Old Syriac are the most ancient, being dated from the middle of the second century.

In 1968, Bruce Metzger, a longtime professor of New Testament language and literature at Princeton, stated: "The amount of evidence for the text of the New Testament.....is so much greater than that available for any ancient classical author that the necessity of resorting to emendation (correcting the text),is reduced to the smallest dimension." Truly, to have such abundance of copies for the New Testament from within seventy years of their writing is nothing short of amazing.

In one sense, the work of the textural critic has been unnecessary, since the vast majority of textural variants involve minor matters that do not affect doctrine as it relates to ones salvation.....no feature of Christian doctrine is at stake.

2-Proof for the credibility of the message

Witness' - Jewish understanding of the need for witness.'

2 Corinthians 13:1 KJV

[1] ..........In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established,  (Deut.17:6).

-The scriptures show many witness.'

1 Corinthians 15:5-8 KJV

[5] And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: [6] After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. [7] After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. [8] And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

Acts 2:32 KJV

[32] This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

Acts 10:39 KJV

[39] And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

-The apostles walked with JESUS some three years, they are qualified witnesses.

How did their telling, of the things that they had seen effect their world? How has The Message effected our world, 2000 years later?

The Unity of Scriptures:

3-One Central Theme

The redemption of man:

It is not possible that these men, over this long period of time wrote in unison, this one main message, the coming of the REDEEMER to save man.

1 Peter 1:18-20 KJV

[18] Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; [19] But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: [20] Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

-JESUS' death for mans sins, was planned before creation

-The O.T. is preparing us for the understanding of GOD's SON.

-JESUS' purpose is shown

-This is The Gospel (Rom.1:16)

Luke 24:46-49 KJV

[46] And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: [47] And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. [48] And ye are witnesses of these things. [49] And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

-The apostles, and many others, saw, touched, and heard, The Messiah; they are capable witnesses of HIS miracles, knowledge, and power.

5-The Bibles claims for itself.

-JESUS read from a copy of the scriptures called the septuagint. Translated in 3 B.C., JESUS read from it, trusted it, and called it scripture.
