It seems that the words, "thank you," and "you're welcome" have become foreign to our society. Sadly, many adults and children do not possess good manners. When this writer was "growing-up," people seemed to be a little nicer, a little more caring. But the longer I live, the more I notice a trend that is very disturbing; the attitude of ingratitude.
We all have something for which to be thankful. Some may be more thankful than others, but nevertheless, we are thankful. For what are you thankful? Is it your family? Is it your job? Is it your health? What about your thankfulness (gratitude) to God? How thankful are you for the blessings that God has abundantly showered upon you?James writes, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (James 1:17). This verse explains that God is the Provider of all good things. He is able to make us complete and provides us with all of the necessities to sustain our lives. He has provided the means by which we must be saved (John 3:16). How thankful are you for those good things?
Luke records an event in the life of Jesus when He healed ten lepers. Luke writes, "And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off" (Luke 17:12). Jesus cleansed all ten of these lepers. However, only one returned to express gratitude. One important point to remember is that Jesus knew what was in the heart and mind of man (John 2:25). Therefore, Jesus knew that only one would return yet He stilled cleansed them all. This is the attitude that we must possess.
I would like to express my gratitude to the brethren at Union Grove for welcoming me and my family with open arms. You have been so loving and caring to us. You have gone above and beyond the "call of duty." It is my prayer that God will allow us many years of fellowship and service with this great congregation. I give thanks (gratitude) to God everyday for His providence that brought us to you.
