Welcome to the

Why have the Lord's Supper every Sunday?

Why does the church of Christ eat the Lord's Supper every Sunday?
The short answer is they do it because that is what the scriptures teach. This question would probably never arise except that some religious groups eat the Lord's Supper quarterly, or on special occasions, or whenever they want to. We know that Jesus instructed his disciples to remember him by eating the bread and drinking the fruit of the vine (grape juice) (Luke 22:19-20). But is there a divinely regulated frequency? Luke tells us, "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread" (Acts 20:7). From this it is clear that one of the purposes of their assembling together on Sunday was to "break bread," not just to eat, but to "break [the] bread." This refers to the Lord's Supper. The Lord's Supper was eaten when the church "came together" (1 Cor. 11:20) at Corinth. The church came together every first day of the week (Sunday) to gather the collection (1 Cor. 16:1-2). Both of these items were their regular practice. Thus we may conclude that they ate the Lord's Supper with the same frequency that they took up the collection.
This is an approved apostolic example of how to obey a command. A different frequency or a random practice must be based on human authority which in matters of faith is no authority. The Jews of old were required to "remember the sabbath day" (Exodus 20:8). They didn't have to ask "Which one?" because it is clear that God intended them to observe every sabbath. Neither do we have to ask "which Sunday?" concerning the Lord's Supper.

"And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me." "Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."
"When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper."
"Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye." "Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come."
