Malawi, a republic in southeastern Africa, formerly the British protectorate of Nyasaland, is bounded on the north by Tanzania, on the east by Lake Nyasa (Malawi), on the southeast and south by Mozambique, and on the west by Zambia. The capital of Malawi is Lilongwe, and the largest city is Blantyre. The population of Malawi is about 11,304,000. About one-fifth of the inhabitants of Malawi practice traditional religions. About two-thirds of the people are Christian, and some 15 percent are Muslim. English is Malawi’s official language, and is the primary language of instruction in the schools. Chichewa, a Bantu language, is the national language, and a number of other Bantu languages are widely spoken.
James Judd served as a missionary to this part of Africa since the 1960's. His son, Randy, joined in the missionary field later. Through their efforts, Bible College Extension Schools have been established that allow for the education of Malawi-native Gospel preachers to be trained and an extensive printed material ministry has begun. This work is overseen by the Thomaston Road church of Christ in Macon, Georgia.
