Welcome to the
Union Grove Church of Christ

"Concerning the Collection for the Saints"

Paul wrote, "Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as  God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come" (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). Paul wrote as an inspired apostle of Jesus Christ and states "as I have given order." The term denotes the commanding of an arrangement. The command he was arranging was God's plan to finance the works of the church.
When we, the church, assemble to worship, we are to give. We must give of ourselves (II Corinthians 8:5). We must give God the fruit of our lips (Colossians 3:16). We must give our attention to the preaching of God's Word (I Timothy 4:12-13). We must give our attention to prayer (Acts 2:42). We must give our minds to remembering the sacrifice of Christ during the Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7). We must give God the money He has entrusted unto us through contributions to the church (Luke 6:38). If we lack in any one of these areas, we have not offered acceptable worship unto God (John 4:24). It is imperative to give God our very best always!
God is concerned with both how and why we give. We must give as we have been prospered (I Corinthians 16:2). The amount of the Christian's giving should be determined by his fiscal prosperity as a good steward. We must give cheerfully (II Corinthians 9:7). Our giving must be motivated out of the love for God in our hearts, not out of a feeling of guilt or frustration.
Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). Giving to the Lord's church must take a priority in our lives.
