Tennessee's Definition of Marriage

On November 7, voters in Tennessee will have the opportunity to approve or reject an amendment to the Tennessee state constitution that will define marriage as the union of a man and a woman.  The necessity of such a vote reveals much about our modern society.  Previously, there was no need to explicitly define marriage in state laws because it was universally understood that marriage is the union of a man and a woman.  Now that homosexuals are attempting to lay claim to the institution of marriage, the state must clarify its terms.

Marriage is an institution of God that predates any other relationship among people.  God defined marriage in the beginning when He joined Adam and Eve, and He has not revised that definition since.  To those who advocate otherwise, I would like to address the question that the Lord Jesus asked when He said, "Have you not read, that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh'?" (Matt. 19:4-5).  Of course, they have read the truth about marriage, but they have refused to abide by it.

Let us understand that regardless of how society or governments define marriage, the only union that is honored by God as marriage is that of a man and a woman whom He has joined together (Matt. 19:6).  If it is now necessary, it would be wise for the state of Tennessee and all governments to simply confess the true meaning of marriage rather than giving an endorsement to those who seek government approval for their abomination.  With whom shall we agree - God, or those who refuse to acknowledge God (Rom. 1:24-32)?
