Biblical Descriptions of Satan
Satan is the name worn by the world's spiritual foe (I Chronicles 21:1; Matthew 4:10). This word is from satanas in the Greek which means adversary (one who is the enemy of and hostile to mankind). Satan is also designated by the word devil (Ephesians 6:11). The Greek word here is diabolos and means "slanderer." Satan seeks to slander (malign) God and man to one another.
