LOSE SALVATION?

IS IT POSSIBLE TO LOSE SALVATION?:

Heb. 2:1-4

Purpose: To see if one can be saved, then lost.

I. Introduction:
    A. Most people would agree that not everyone will be saved. It isn’t that God is not willing.
Rather it is that man is not willing to submit to God and accept the conditions of salvation.
         Matt. 7:21-23; Rom. 2:4-6.
    B. 2 Pet. 3:9. God is patiently waiting for repentance.
    C. Heb. 2:1-4. Don’t drift away or neglect what God offers.
    D. Some teach once one is saved they can not be lost. The Bible does not teach this.

II. Salvation is only through Jesus:
    A. Exod. 20:3-6. God is the only God. John 14:6; Acts 4:12. Jesus is the only way.
    B. Rom. 5:8; John 3:16. Jesus died for us because God loved us even as sinners.
    C. Saved by hearing (Rom. 10:17), believing (John 3:16), repenting (Acts 17:30), confessing
(Rom. 10:9-10), being baptized (Acts 2:38) and living faithfully (Rev.2:10).

III. Salvation can be forfeited:
       A. The power is within each of us to choose right or wrong. We are protected from
temptation (1 Cor. 10:13) and Jesus said that no one could snatch us out of His hand
(John 10:27-30). However, we can voluntarily remove ourselves.
       B. Let’s examine some passages dealing with those who left God.
       C. Rev. 3:1-5. Repent or names be blotted out of the Book of Life.
       D. Jas. 5:19-20. Turn one from wandering from truth. Save a soul from death.
       E. 1 Cor. 9:24-27; 10:12-13. Possible to be disqualified, to fall.
       F. Heb. 3:5-6; 12-13. Possible to depart from God.
       G. Gal. 5:1-4. Can be estranged from Christ. Fall from grace. Saved by grace through faith,
Eph. 2:8-10. Leave Christian walk, leave grace.

IV. Conclusion:
     A. The Christian should rejoice in the knowledge of salvation, but also beware in case the
world should draw him back to sin. Salvation is conditional on our faithfulness.
     B. 1 John 1:5-7. Must walk in the light.
     C. 1 Cor. 15:1-2. “If you hold fast...”
     D. Col. 1:21-23. “If you continue...”
     E. 2 Pet. 1:8-11. Choice is ours. Grow and be strong. Or neglect growth and remove
         ourselves from salvation.
     F. The assurance of salvation is in God’s promises and in our faithfulness to righteous
          living.
