Christ Seen in the Book of Exodus

Christ  Seen in the Book of Exodus

In Exodus 3:1-14 an angel of the Lord appears to Moses out of a burning bush (Ex 3:2). Moses turns aside to see this sight and why the bush is not burnt even though it is on fire (Ex 3:3-4). As Moses approaches the burning bush God identifies himself tells Moses to take of his shoes (Ex 3:5-6).  The voice out of the burning bush announces himself as Lord in verse seven. Later we read in verse eleven and thirteen that Moses was talking with God. and in (Ex 3:14) God tells Moses to tell the children of Israel that I AM THAT I AM sent him to deliver the people.

The connection to Jesus Christ is seen in the New Testament when Christ says that the people will die in their sins unless they believe that his is the I AM (John 8:24, 58). The same I AM that spoke to Moses out of the burning bush was the second person in the Godhead. The question of whether Jesus Christ is Deity has been debated for many years, but John tells us who Jesus is (John 1:1-4, 14). Paul affirms that the second person in the Godhead became flesh (I Tim 3:16). This miraculous event was prophesied by Isaiah 750 years before it happened (Is 7:14). And Matthew affirms that this prophecy was fulfilled in the New Testament by Jesus Christ (Matt 1:18-25). The Jewish people sought to kill Jesus because of his great proclamation that he was the Son of God (John 5:17-18). The Bible teaches that Jesus is Deity in many way some of which are: Jesus made the world in creation (John 1:3), Jesus upholds creation (Heb 1:3), Jesus knows all things (John 2:24-25), Jesus searches the hearts of men (Jer 17:9-10; Rev 2:23), Jesus is the Alfa and Omega (Rev 1:8).

The connection between Jesus Christ as the I AM that spoke to Moses out of the burning bush is one of the many ways that Christ is typified in the book of Exodus. How is Christ typified in your life? The book of Exodus is truly an enriching study and one that is worth our time.
