THE GOD OF ABSOLUTES

Man has long contended that truth is relative and not universal and unchanging.  Pilate expressed it best in John 18:37-38 when Jesus told him that everyone that is of the truth hears his voice: Pilate responded, "What is truth?"  With man there are no absolutes since man is always changing.  Absolutes have to come from an absolute authority.  The only absolute authority in the universe is God.

Psalm 24:1 states, "the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein."  God never changes, as we see in James 1:17, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

We can conclude that what truth the unchanging absolute authority reveals to is indeed absolute and unchanging.  This thought is expressed in Psalm 117:1-2, "O praise the Lord, all ye nations: Praise him, all ye people.  For his merciful kindness is great toward us: And the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord."

Jesus identified truth's absoluteness in John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."  Jesus assured us that all truth would be revealed to us in John 16:13, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."  We also know that that which is revealed is truth, it is also unchanging since Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

How will you respond to the absolute unchanging truth in God's word?  Will you be like Pilate and with a mental shrug ask, "What is truth?" Or will you respond like Peter in John 6:67-68, "Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?" Then Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life."
