A Sign Post

"A Sign Post"

By John Ankrom

One of my favorite old time science fiction TV shows was and still is "Twilight Zone" in the opening monolog Rod Sterling says "there's a sign post up ahead" the way he said it always gave me goose bumps, it excited me because it meant there was information coming, decisions could be made based on what the sign post said, should we turn off onto a side road or go straight ahead? Is there danger or safety, could we find a place to rest or is there still many miles of lonely desolate road.

Life is like an open road with "sign posts up a head" that directs us alone life's highway, but which sign post do we choose, what direction do we take, which sign post will get us to where we as Christians want to go? In Jeremiah 6:16 we read "Thus saith the Lord, stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths" You see, the Israelites had become lost, they were following the wrong "sign post" God wanted them to look and understand where they were, he wanted them to understand that they had taken a wrong turn, they were living in sin, they had become reprobate and God demanded repentance, but they refused to obey.

Today, are we following the right path? Many men today have this little problem, we hate to admit we are lost, we drive around for hours trying to find our way when the most logical thing for us to do, (the thing our wives have told us to do many times) is to stop and ask for directions. This is nothing new; man has always wanted to do things their own way, always wanting to take the path of his choosing regardless of where it might lead.

What sign posts are you following? God has given us a map with all the sign posts clearly marked, that map is the Bible. Thomas ask the Lord Two questions in John 14:5 he asks simply "Lord where are you going" and "how can we get there" pretty much the same questions we ask today are they not?

Jesus answers him and our questions in verse 6, he says "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me" Jesus is the path, Jesus is the way to follow, Jesus is our sign post. If we are following Jesus Christ and His word, then we can be sure we are on the highway to eternal life.
