Article 0117 - Questions Asked By Jesus

Questions Asked by Jesus and of Jesus

Jon Gary Williams

It is amazing to discover that more than 350 times in the gospel accounts, questions are found involving Jesus. More than 240 of those questions were asked by Jesus and more than 130 were questions asked of Him.

The wisdom of Jesus' questions and His response to the questions from others is remarkable. This was a valuable tool the Lord used during His personal ministry. Jesus' authority in all these situations is evidence that He is Lord and gives additional reason to research these questions.

Some of the questions are duplicates, being found in more than one gospel account. A few of Jesus' questions are rhetorical, requiring no response, yet they teach strong lessons. Some are repetitious, asking the same question but in different ways.

Most of the questions, both to and from Jesus, dealt with important religious, moral and ethical matters. From them a wealth of understanding can be gleaned, for they provide a valuable source of information in developing Bible lessons and sermons. It is necessary, of course, to study carefully the context in which the questions appear.

Following is a complete list of these two groups of questions.
