On the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, God spoke to Moses, telling him to take a census of the entire Israelite community (Numbers 1:1-54). The corresponding arrangement of Israel's wilderness encampment is found in Numbers 2:1 - 3:39.
