Lesson 10 - The Mission of the Church
: Personal Evangelism

The church is made up of Christians. The church's work of evangelism must, therefore, involve individual Christians. Actually, this is the only way the gospel can be conveyed to the lost. Sometimes this is done by one who speaks publicly. More often, however, this is done on by individual Christians teaching the lost privately. This is often referred to as personal evangelism. Without the effort of individual Christians the work of evangelism would not exist. What does the Bible teach about personal evangelism?

I. Responsibility is personal in nature

A. Everyone is responsible for what he was able to do. (Matt. 25:14,15
)
B. The consequence of failing to meet responsibility. (Matt. 25:24-30
)
C. Paul's sense of responsibility. (Rom. 1:14
)
D. Christ's followers, individually, are to be "light" and salt." (Matt. 5:13-16)
E. The Christian's life is a "letter" seen by others. (II Cor. 3:2,3)

II. How is personal evangelism accomplished?
A. It can be done publicly or in private. (Acts 20:20) (see vv.24,27) 

B. It can be done by sending others. (Php. 1:3-5; 4:15,16) Note the necessity of 
someone being sent. (Rom. 10:14,15)
III. Opportunity for personal evangelism is unlimited
A. "The __________ is the _________" (Matt. 13:38)

B. "The ____________ truly is __________" (Lk. 10:1,2) (cf. Jn. 4:34,35)
IV. Essentials of doing personal evangelism
A. A godly life. (Rom. 12:1,2)
B. Love for lost souls. (I Jn. 4:11; Eph. 5:2
)
C. Prayer. (Rom. 10:1
)
D. Bible knowledge. (II Tim. 2:15; I Pet. 3:15) (cf. I Tim. 4:16)
V. God's appraisal of doing personal work
