Article 0138 - Miracles of Jesus

A Chronological Listing of the Miracles of Jesus

Jon Gary Williams

The New Testament includes a great many miracles performed by Jesus - - forty-nine to be exact. Inspired scripture reminds us that the miracles penned for our reading were only a fraction of those which our Lord carried out.

"And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." (John 20:30, 31)

The majority of these recorded miracles involved various healings and the casting out of demons. Nine of them involved the altering of physical objects, such as feeding the five thousand and calming the sea. Five were miracles which pertained to Jesus himself, such as His sudden vanishing then reappearing in a closed room.

Only two miracles are found in all four gospel accounts (the second great haul of fish and Jesus' resurrection).

Six miracles are found only in Matthew; four are found only in Mark; two are found only in Luke; and six are found only in John.
