Bridgeport, Alabama -- Mr. Paul Edward Payne Sr., 80, passed away Thursday June 20, 2018 at his home. He was born in South Pittsburg, Tennessee on November 8, 1937 to Garland and Ara Stewart Payne who preceded him in death along with his wife, Bessie Faye Prickett Payne; sisters, Barbara Sexton and Nancy Walker.

Paul, Pud or Buddy (as some would lovingly call him) was a retired Conductor of the CSX Railroad. He was a member of the Bridgeport Church of Christ serving as a song leader and deacon for many years. He loved to sing and bass was his gift. He loved going to the Friday Night Singings. He also enjoyed playing golf, Alabama football, fishing and hunting with his boys.

He is survived by his sons, Paul E. Payne Jr. (Bridgeport, Alabama) and Wade and his wife Tracy Payne (Loganville, Georgia); sister, Phyllis Ridley (Huntsville, Alabama) and brother-in-law, Jim Sexton (Bridgeport, Alabama); several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at the Bridgeport Church of Christ with Bro. Roger Comstock and Bro. Danny Rader officiating with burial to follow in the Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4:00 PM -- 9:00 PM Friday at Rudder Funeral Home, Bridgeport, Alabama and Saturday 10:00 -- 11:00 AM at the Bridgeport Church of Christ.
