What Must I Do To Be Saved?

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Acts 16:27-32

INTRODUCTION
A.    This is the most important question that can be asked by man.
B.    When a person comes to this place we can see that God has been working in his life.
C.    As a Christian I can think of no greater activity than letting God use us to bring a person to
        this place.
D.    But there are those who say that there is nothing to do.
E.    But this is not the answer given to this question in the bible.
DISCUSSION:
I.    This question is asked several times in the Bible. Notice that in each case men are
       told that there is something to be done in order to be saved.
       A.    Acts 2:37
       B.    Acts 9:6 (Saul) 10:6 (Cornelius)
       C.    Acts 16:30 (Jailor)
       D.    Look at plan of salvation.
              1.    Hear his word John 12:47,48; Matt. 17:5 "...hear ye Him..."
              2.    Believe His word Mark 16:16; Rom. 10:17; John 8:24 "Therefore I said to
                     you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He,
                     you will die in your sins." (note the antithesis)
              3.    Repenting of your sins Luke 13:3,5; 2 Cor. 7:10; 2 Pete. 3:9; Acts 17:30
              4.    Confessing Christ to be the Son of God Matt. 10:32,33; Rom. 10:9-11;
              5.    Being baptized In the name of Jesus Christ for remission of Sin Mark 16:16;
                     Acts2:38;
                     a.    Baptism washes away sins Acts 22:16
                     b.    Baptism adds one to the body Acts 2:41, 47; 1 Cor. 12:13
                     c.    Baptism saves 1 peter 3:21

II.    Now lets look at some other things that simply must be done in order to be saved.
        A.    One must first be actively seeking Jesus.
               1.    Matt. 6:32 we must stop seeking the things of this world and "...seek first the
                      kingdom of God and His righteousness...'
               2.    Matt. 7:7 teaches us that we must put forth some effort if we hope to please God.
                      Matt 7:1 ". . . and it will be given to you; . . .  and you will find; . . . and it will be
                      opened to you.
              3.    Men should stop seeking for signs and seek Jesus. Mark 8: 12 "But He sighed
                     deeply in His spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign?
                    Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation. "
       B.    One must be willing to "receive" Jesus.
               1.    John 1: 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to
                      become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
               2.    John 5:43 "1 have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me;
                      if another comes in his own name. him you witl receive. 44 "How can
                      you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the
                     honor that comes from the only God?
       C.    One must be willing to come to Jesus.
               1.    Jesus came to do His Father's will John 8:42 Jesus said to them, "If God were
                      your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from
                     God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.

                2.    Jesus came to man to save man. , Now it is man who must come to Jesus.
                       a.    Matt 11:28 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and
                              I will give you rest. (NKJ)
                       b.    John 6:37 "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one
                              who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 38 "For I have come
                              down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who
                              sent Me.

CONCLUSION:
A.    What about you? Have you been seeking Jesus?
B.    Are you willing to receive Jesus on His terms?
C.    Are you willing to come to Jesus?
