Paul Dean Miller, Elder

I am fifty-three years young and have been a member of the Church of Christ for forty-one of those years. I was baptized at age twelve by Ralph Hanlin who was the preacher of the church that I attended in Bens Run, West Virginia.

I grew up attending the church at Bens Run along with my father (Paul Dean Miller Sr.), mother (Sarah Elizabeth Miller), and brother (Richard Lee Miller).

I met my wife Deborah Jo Miller , while we were both attending Fairmont State College in 1975. I graduated in 1976 with a bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and went to work for American Cyanamid Company. Deb graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and was a fourth grade teacher for Wetzel County.

We got married on July 4th, 1978, in Deb’s hometown of Shinston, W.V. In 1983 on May 19th, we had our first child, Nathaniel (which you probably have figured out is the youth minister) for George Street. In 1988 on February 10th, we had Alison Jo Miller our first daughter. Our second daughter, Leesha Dawn Miller was then born on October 14th, 1989.

In April of 1999, my project manager position with Hoffman La-Roche was eliminated, as the company was sold to Alpharma. I then went to work as a contract engineer for Bayer Chemicals’ Iron Oxide Division in New Martinsville, WV, for eight months and was then hired at Marietta College as the Associate Director of the Physical Plant, where I am currently working on my sixth year.

Deborah Jo chose to stay home and raise our children until approximately 1995, when she went back to work as a teacher’s aide in the Tyler County Schools District. Shortly following her return, she decided to renew her teaching certificate and return to the teaching staff of Tyler County. She is currently employed as a fifth grade teacher for Boreman Elementary School in Tyler County and has been there for four years.

Alison, age 19, is attending Marietta College in her first year of studying biology and is planning to go into the medical field of some degree. She is very active at college with her studies and doing very well with a 3.899 grade average for her first semester. She is taking 15 hours class credit, along with singing in the concert choir, and playing in the concert and jazz bands.

Leesha, age 17, is attending Tyler Consolidated High School in her junior year and is planning to seek a writing /communication type degree for her career path. Leesha is also doing very well with a 4.00 grade average for her high school career thus far and is in various extra curricular activities as well including jazz band, concert band, marching band, Hi-Y, etc. and is also the president of her class for the 3rd year running.

The whole family started attending George Street Church of Christ in 1991, when we wanted to find a congregation that had more young families of our age with children.

It was a great decision for us, and we hope to help the congregation to continue to grow in the Lord. To do so, we hope to bring other families to know what we have found in George Street. The congregation is a very loving, caring, sharing, giving, and spiritual congregation. I believe that it is a good example of what God would want his family to be and how he would want us to treat and care for each other. God gave us the Bible as a guidebook and in it are all kinds of examples of his life and others that we are to pattern and try to emulate. I am certain that if you visit and grow to know the people of George Street that you will also feel the way that our family does and understand why we love them and continue to thrive here with God’s People.
