Walking With God

Walking With God

And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. (Gen 5:24)

Walking with God is one of the greatest privileges that one could have while on earth. Enoch was a man who set an example for all men and women who ever lived. This passage of Scripture tells us a lot about Enoch and it tells us a lot about God. There are three things evident about Enoch found in this passage

First Enoch was active in his spiritual life. Being active in our spiritual live is what God has purposed for us. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Eph 2:10). Doing good, doing the will of God, obedience to God's word are all a part of the Christian walk. God has promised us that he will reward us at the end of the this life. Our reward will be according to what we have done, therefore, we should be enthusiastic about working for God becaue we know that God cannot lie and he has promised us a reward. "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them" (Rev 14:13).

Second Enoch was in agreement with God. It is one thing to be active in our spiritual lives; but we need to make sure that we are in agreement with God in all our activities "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him" (Col 3:17).  Whatever we do in our lives it needs to be by the authority of Christ. This is the only way that we can be in agreement with him. There were people in the first century who did many wonderful things in the name of the Lord. But those people did not do those mighty works by the authority of God. And God ultimately told them that he did not know them (Matt 7:21-14).

Third Enoch ascended into heaven. The Bible says that God took Enoch. We read in the book of Hebrews that many people were looking for Enoch but no one was able to find him (Heb 11:5). What a great reward! To know that you have live your life is such a way that God decided that he would not wait until you died but that he would take you (translate you) from heaven to earth so that you would not have to suffer death. Another person who found this special grace in the sight of God was Elijah. Both Enoch and Elijah did not have to experience death; however, this will not be the fait of anyone living today. God has promised to took take us to be with him, it will just be in a different way.  Paul says,

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord

(I Thess 4:16-17).

May we all live a life like Enoch one that is full of days, fill with activity and work for the lord, and a life that is in agree with the will of the Lord. If we live a life that is characterized by these things then we too will be able to live with God in Heaven like Enoch.
