EXCUSE NUMBER _______

I try hard to be a good Christian and I probably could me more of one, if life wouldn't get in the way. My goal is to spend equal time reading my bible, prayer, reaching out to others, going to church, as I do in working out, taking care of the family, visiting with friends or going to work. But there is no way I am doing a 50/50.  Occasionally, I'm close, but for most of the time I struggle to be anywhere near 50/50.

There are wonderful examples of people in the bible who did things life required.  After all Jesus was a carpenter, Paul a tentmaker, the worthy woman in Proverbs ran a business whiling taking care of her family, and Lydia was a seller of purple. However, they never gave an excuse to God as why he could not be first.  But being the human I am, with my titling halo, when life gets in the way God gets put way down on my list of priorities.  He's the one who hears excuse after excuse of why he can't be first.  What would happen if I gave those excuses to my family? What would happen if I gave those excuses to my employer?

Excuses of why I can't be there for God:

1.     The time church starts isn't a good time for me.

2.     Sometimes I'm up late and just too tired to get up to come to church.  Sunday is the only day I get to sleep in and not be bothered.

3.     The weather... it's too cold, it's raining, it's snowing, it's too dark, it's too hot, it's too windy, it's too sunny, it's too foggy.

4.     I don't get anything out of the classes.

5.     I don't get anything out of the sermons.

6.     I don't get anything out of the of singing.

7.     I really don't like the attitude of some of the people.

8.     If I come, then I'm expected to do something. There's enough people there to do whatever needs to be done.

9.     No one listens to my ideas so why try?

10.  I was coming to church, but thought I would take a vacation week and church wasn't on my schedule.

11.  I was already to come, but then someone posted something interesting on facebook, then I got hung up on candy crush

Excuses to why I can't be there for Family:

1.     The time you all get up isn't a good time for me.

2.     Sometimes I'm up late and just too tired to get up -- after all I too need sleep.

3.     I don't get anything out of cleaning house -- you all just mess it up again.

4.     I don't get anything out of cooking -- no one wants the same thing and it's never ending.  I don't know why you think you must eat 3 times a day.

5.     I really don't like the attitude some of you.

6.     You all are wanting me to do something like change your diapers, go to your games, recitals. It never ends.

7.     The weather... it's too cold, it's raining, it's snowing, it's too dark, it's too hot, it's too windy it's too sunny, it's too foggy for me to leave the house to go outside and play.

8.     If I start doing stuff for you all then you will expect me to keep on doing it.  There's other people in your life that can help you.

9.     I was going to do family things but thought I would take a vacation week instead and family stuff was not on my schedule.

10.  I was already to take care of you, but then someone posted something, interesting on facebook, then I got hung up on candy crush.

Excuse to why I can't be there for work:

1.     The time you want me to be at work isn't a good time for me.

2.     Sometimes I'm up late and just too tired to get up -- after all I need 8 hours of sleep.

3.     I don't get anything out of coming to work. Everyone complains and it's the same thing over and over.

4.     The weather... it's too cold, it's raining, it's snowing, it's too dark, it's too hot, it's too windy it's too sunny, it's too foggy for me to leave the house to go to work.

5.     I really don't like the attitudes of some of the people who work here so if they are scheduled the same time I am I won't be at work.

6.     If I start doing work related things for you, then you'll expect me to do it all the time. I might consider doing something if I get a raise or stocks, or employee benefits.

7.     You expect too much from me like clean up my station, be nice to people on the phone, go to training classes. It never ends.

8.     I thought I would just take a vacation this week and work wasn't on my schedule.

9.     I was already to come to work, but then someone posted something on facebook, then I got hung up on candy crush

If I gave my family, the same excuses I give God ---- child services would be called.

If I gave my employer, the same excuses I give God---- I would be fired.

If God gave me the excuses I give him ---- I would not exist.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:

Do something at church, for your family, or at work that you haven't done, because of the excuses you made.

"The moment I make an excuse, I confess to many things."
