It's Just a Table

"It's Just A Table"

It is September 8, 2018, around 10:00 p.m. and I am sitting on the floor in my living room that is empty except for a sofa table holding a printer. You see, in three days we will be leaving our home of 33 years in Bonfield, IL to move to Ocala, Florida.  Even though John and I are excited about the move it is bittersweet. I can keep it together if I don't have to talk to or see anyone, which has been impossible.

What keeps me sane...somewhat...is seeing how God has orchestrated this move. His plan has been so much better than the one we came up with in January.  Even when we had a little mishap, with what could have a delayed in closing, it turned out to be a blessing. I can't help but to smile and tell people every time I see something he has done for us to make this move as smooth as possible. I am so humbled with all that is going on in this world that he has taken the time to help us every step of the way.

I kept saying I'm not attached to the house or anything in the house.  I kept saying I have wonderful memories that I can take with me and add them to the ones we will make in Florida.  But, I have to admit as my kitchen table was going out the door my heart sank.  We purchased it about fifteen years ago from an Amish store. Twelve people could sit around it when using all four leaves. Sometimes we would squeeze in one or two so we could all be around the table.

As they were loading the table into a truck I could see John sitting at the head of the it, a position he held proudly.  I could see four generations sharing a meal at the same time. I could hear the prayers. I could hear the stories.  I could hear the laughter. I could hear, "Nana, is there more macaroni and cheese?"

I could see us all cleaning up after the meal, taking out the leaves, to make it smaller so it could be use to play board games or cards.  I could hear more laughter which was usually brought on by Destini, Damon, and Dustin pointing out something I said or did. Not meaning too, I gave them a lot of material.

I know it's just a table but it was a table that held endless blessings of family and friends. Even sitting on this hard floor, I am still amazed how God worked in the selling of the table.  He made sure it was the last thing sold and even who would be buying the it who happened to be a friend of mine. Janet was so excited to get the table which warmed my heart.  I pray that she too will be blessed with the making of memories with her family while sitting around the table, and that she always has endless bowls of macaroni and cheese.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS

Have dinner around the table with NO electronics - this includes all grownups Have a candlelight dinner around the table, even if it's hot dogs.
