La Feria church of Christ Bulletin

Greetings from your preacher,

This next week, as I mentioned on Sunday, Diana and I are traveling to Memphis, Tennessee for the annual Memphis School of Preaching lectureship. This is a special time for us, as we are able to listen to about thirty-five sermons from God's word. It is always helpful to hear more of God's word when building our faith. I pray that everyone will study God's word, and apply it to their lives, that they may continue to build their faith, as well.

In my absence, brother Andy Downing will present the Bible study, and then the sermon during the worship service. Sister Isabel will be teaching the children in Diana's place. Please pray for us as we travel, as we continue to pray for each of you. And, may God's blessings be upon you this next week.

Please put on your calendar the HomeMission Workshop on Saturday, April 18th. The day will start with a men's breakfast planning meeting between 9 and 9:30 a.m.

Your preacher,
Roger

PRAISEWORTHY KIDS

This past Sunday in the morning Bible study for children, Araiza, Benny and Jayden considered how being a Christian is a choice we begin to make while are still little children. Just like we begin thinking about what else we want to be when we grow up, we also need to determine we will follow Jesus. They discussed that way they practice obeying Jesus now, is through obeying their parents. The children rehearsed the song -Be Careful Little Eyes What You See.- And, they opened their Bibles, found the book of Ephesians, and read (Eph. 6:1-3).

Please continue to pray for the children, that they might grow up to be strong Christian men and women.

AN ARTICLE FROM A PREACHER: PHYSICAL FITNESS OR SPIRITUAL EXERCISE?
Jay Launius

As the Apostle Paul instructs Timothy in the work of ministry, he writes, -For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.- (1 Timothy 4:8)

We all understand that physical exercise, when practiced properly and consistently, will help keep us healthy and active throughout our lives. However, Paul places priority on spiritual activity over bodily movement. In verse 7, he says, -Exercise or train yourself toward godliness- because -godliness- is good and profitable in every way for the believer.

Just as our personal trainer at the gym or the physical therapist, the Lord has laid out a spiritual workout plan so we can reap the benefits of a godly lifestyle.

Lead a Quiet, Peaceful, and Reverent Life in all Godliness, (1 Tim. 2:2). Profess Godliness by Doing Good Works, (1 Tim. 2:10). Celebrate the Mystery of Godliness Which is Christ, (1 Tim. 3:16). Follow the Words of Jesus Christ which Promotes Godliness, (1 Tim. 6:3). Avoid Fake Godliness, (1 Tim. 6:5; 2 Tim. 3:5). Godliness with Contentment is Great Gain! (1 Tim. 6:6) Pursue Righteousness, Godliness, Faith, Love, Patience, Gentleness, (1 Tim. 6:11).

Godliness finds its place listed among the -Christian Graces- of Peter's second letter. When exercised faithfully, these attributes give us confidence that we are spiritually fit and healthy. -But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.- (2 Peter 1:5--8)

Our News Archives

OUR VISITORS ARE OUR HONORED GUESTS!

If you worship with us, this is what you may expect to see following the New Testament example we can read about in the Bible:

We pray to Our Father through the name of Jesus Christ.

We open up the Bible and read it.

A gospel sermon is preached.

We sing from the heart without instruments.

We remember the Lord Jesus Christ's death every first day of the week with the Lord's supper.

Those who have laid funds by in store for the purpose of giving to the work of the church make contributions.

If you are a visitor and are interested in knowing more about the events of the church of Christ in La Feria, please call preacher Roger Goodwin at (956) 277-0434.

"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matt. 28:18-20)
