Today Is A Good Day!

Today Is A Good Day!
Heb. 4:6-9

Introduction:
1.    Yesterday is settled. It cannot be changed.
2.    Tomorrow is not yet come and is not promised. Prov 27:1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou
knowest not what a day may bring forth.
3.    Today is the only day we have to live in, and today is a good day.
4.    Let's look at how good it is.

Discussion:
I.    Today is Good Because Each Day Has A Manageable Amount of Difficulty.
      A.    Mat 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for
the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Therefore let us not try to live
              tomorrow before it comes.
      B.    1 Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is
faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
II.    Today is Good Because I Can Use It To Avoid Becoming Hardhearted.
        A.    Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened
through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the
beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear
his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
        B.    Prov 28:14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall
                into mischief.
III.    Today Is Good Because It Can Be A Day Of True Rest.
         A.    Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered
into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour
therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
         B.    Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall
find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.  (see also 2 Thess.
                1:7)

IV.    Today is Good Because It Has Been Made By The Lord.
         A.    Psa 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
         B.    Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

V.     Today is Good Because The Night Will Come When I Can Work No More.
         A.    John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh,
                 when no man can work.
         B.    James 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and
continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be
on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time,
and then vanisheth away. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do
                this, or that.

VI.    Today Is Good Because I Can Use It To Avoid Being Lost.
         A.    Luke 12:16-21
         B.    2 Cor. 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may
receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or
                 bad.

VII.   Today Is Good Because I Can Use It Fully In Service to The Lord.
          A.    Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
          B.    Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24
Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the
                 Lord Christ.

Conclusion:
1.    Today is a good day to:
       A.    Begin taking it one day at a time.
       B.    Avoid hardheartedness.
       C.    Begin resting in Christ.
       D.    Acknowledge the Lord's day.
       E.    Realize our own mortality.
       F.    Avoid being lost.
       G.    Begin fully serving the Lord.
2.    Let us use every today to avoid evil, serve good, and enjoy our relationship with the Father.
