Biblical Correctness

Biblical Correctness

By Dan Bailey

Today is the day of political correctness. I'm not sure who is guiding the movement and who determines which words are correct, but I know that it is not God! People are so concerned about being politically correct, but the same people have NO concern about being Biblically correct. The issues that are politically correct are more important to the multitudes than the Word of God.

In reality, to be correct Biblically speaking is infinitely more important than political correctness. After all, we are going to be judged in light of God's Word. Jesus said, '"We that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" (John 12:48). He also said, "He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God" (John 8:47).

Political correctness is a passing fad which very often runs contrary to the Word of God. But God's Word will last forever. "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever" (Isaiah 40:8). "But the word of the Lord endurethfor ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you" (1 Peter 1:25).

God's Word of truth is the standard for morality, not political correctness. We are taught in the scriptures, "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world" (Titus 2:11-12). The sober and righteous life is taught and explained in the Word of God. James said, "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves" (James 1:22). Political correctness cannot save a single soul, but the word of God can. "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. " (James 1:21).

We are not at liberty to add to, subtract from, nor to modify the Word of God in any way. We read in Deuteronomy 4:2, "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you" (Deuteronomy 4:2). We read in Proverbs 30:5-6, "Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar" (Proverbs 30:5-6). And in the New Testament we are warned, "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book" (Revelation 22:18-19).

Let us strive to be Biblically correct and let us with God's help do all that He commands us to do. The Lord said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 7:21). We can't do the will of God without being Biblically correct. May God help us to be faithful to His Word.
