The Gospel And Morality

The Gospel and Morality

by Dan C. Bailey

The gospel of Christ is God's power unto salvation. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek" (Romans 1:16). It is called "the word of the truth of the gospel" (Colossians 1:5). This word, or sound doctrine, teaches us how to be holy and how to live righteous lives before God. "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world" (Titus 2:11-12).

The gospel, or the truth of God's word, is contrary to all sin and evil deeds. It is impossible to be a faithful Christian if one simply ignores sin. As Christians, we need to speak out against all deeds that are contrary to the word of God. Abortion might be permitted by the law of men, but it is contrary to the law of God. The willful killing of an innocent child inside the womb amounts to the murder of a little baby.

When Job was conceived, he was called "a man child" (Job 3:3). Before Job came out of the womb, he (a person), was in the womb or belly (Job 3:11). Had he died before birth, he would have been one of the "infants which never saw light" (Job 3:16).

Jesus was born of a virgin. The angel said, "that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 1:20). In Luke 2:21, it is clear that it was Jesus who was conceived in the womb. We read: "And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb" (Luke 2:21).

It is evident from the Bible that at conception, a man child, an infant, a child, or human being exists. When Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth, it was a "babe" that leaped in Elizabeth's womb. "And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost" (Luke 1:41). Yea, the babe not only leaped in the womb, but it leaped in the womb for joy. "For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy" (Luke 1:44).

Our Supreme Court has legalized the murder of babies in the womb. Should Christians be mute concerning any criticism of such an ungodly law? If our Senators and Representatives support abortion, should the Christian simply remain mute over the issue, or should the Christian stand against such? If the President condones, not only abortion, but even partial birth abortion, should Christians remain silent?

No man is above God's law! Anyone and everyone who takes a stand against the truth of God's word is subject to rebuke. If you have not taken a stand against the murder of an innocent child, then by all means repent and stand up for what is right.
